W.E. FERRIDAY
Oak Bay taxi czar, W.E. Ferriday, began his transporting empire with Oak Bay Transfer, which he operated from his home at 1795 Foul Bay Road.
| He then started Oak Bay Taxi from his Foul Bay address. |
| At the onset of the Depression, he moved his operations to 2013 Oak Bay Avenue, recently abandoned by Avenue Theatre, a casualty of the Depression. The theatre seats were removed and the building became a warehouse for the newly-named Oak Bay Transfer and Storage. |
| Oak Bay Taxi was renamed Oak Bay 10c Cab Co to compete with companies charging 25c. |
| As the Depression took its toll on businesses, Oak Bay 10c Taxi was renamed Oak Bay 25c Taxi by 1938. |
| In 1943 the former Avenue Theatre building at 2013 Oak Bay Avenue was converted to an apartment block, forcing Ferriday to move his operations to a new location. |
| He decided on 2246 Oak Bay Avenue, in the Village, from where he operated Oak Bay Transfer, Oak Bay Taxi and Willows Taxi. |
| Ferriday then established Ferriday's Taxi with, seemingly, an office at the refurbished 2013 Oak Bay Avenue address, with his taxi stand next door at 2019 Oak Bay Avenue. |
By 1957 Oak Bay Transfer had relocated outside of Oak Bay and Oak Bay Taxi, Uplands Taxi, Jubilee Cabs and Ferriday's Taxi were operating out of 2019 Oak Bay Avenue.
