Shops and Stores
1960s — 1980s
by Ian Fraser

I grew up in Oak Bay from 1967 to 1985. I worked at several locations and remember the following:
Cambrige Market in the Estevan Village Shopping Centre. It was co-owned by Ken Wong and Wally ?
Cambridge Meats, at the rear of the store, was owned and operated by Mr. Mickey Grant. He lived on Dunlevy. I worked there 1977 to 1979.
Will-o-Way Market on Cadboro Bay Rd. A lady named Jean worked there for a long time.
Davis Hardware was at the SE corner of Musgrave and Estevan
Uplands Garage SE corner of Cadboro Bay Rd and Estevan. It was demolished in 1976 and the Food Forum was built in its place.
There was a Shell gas station on the SW corner of Cadboro Bay and Estevan. There was a large grass field behind that was a constant source of glass pop bottles (2 cents each).
There was a Gulf gas station on the NW corner of Cadboro Bay Rd and Kinross.
Chew's TV was at Cadboro Bay and Bowker. Next to that was the Victoria Times paper shack.
Uplands Grocery was at Cadboro Bay Rd and Tod Lane.
Blay's Pharmacy was in the Estevan Village. Mr. Blay would hire kids to make deliveries for 75 cents a delivery. 1970s
My father, Stu Fraser founded the Oak Bay Sea Rescue Society in 1974-75
