The History of
Oak Bay
Website

The creation
and development
of this website has been
a labour of love — many thousands of hours
over twenty years.
The site has received
a heritage award and
is my centennial
legacy gift to the
community.

PROJECT CARD

Outa My Mind
is a 185-page retrospective,
e-Book of my personal creations
over the years. Some projects
received international
recognition, most notably
Photographer, considered by
some to be one of the top
three photography magazines
in the world. But many
of my creations — including
cartoon friends and music
unheard — have never
seen the light of day
until now.

Stan Foogle is a
hopelessly optimistic loser
who shares his thoughts
with the viewer. He's so overwhelmed by the
"vagaries" of life that he
wears hip waders and
carries a shovel.

. Promo Kit .
1979

For a short period of time,
I ran a recording studio.
I saw first-hand that
musicians were meticulous
about their music but gave
almost no thought to the
presentation package
they sent to agents, labels
and publishers. To remedy
this, I created the Promo
Kit
— so musicians could
"look as good as they sound."
The Promo Kit sold well.
One studio in Cuba bought
them by tha boxload. But
before long, manufacturing
flaws disrupted everything
and caused more headaches
than this project was worth.
The lesson I learned from this
experience was to be 100%
in control over any project
I undertake.

. Totem Poles .
From Cosmos to Curios

This book is divided
into 3 sections. The first explores
the spiritualism — cosmic and
ancestral — of carved posts
once found throughout southeast
Asia and the Pacific islands.
The second shows how this
spiritualism succumbed to egotism
as totem poles of the Pacific
Northwest Coast became status
symbols flaunting imaginative
ancestral genealogies. The third
deals with the afterlife of totem poles
after surviving the wrath of 18th
century missionaies to become
pop culture icons used to
promote and market just
about everything.

. Oak Bay .
The Formative Years

This book tells a
different story about
Oak Bay. It's a story that
begins 375 million years
ago when underwater
volcanoes in an ancient
Panthallasah Sea
spewed out hot gases,
ash and lava that became
the bedrock of Oak Bay.
This molten bedrock migrated
north where it collided into
the west coast of a
newly-forming Canada.
It then spent thousands of
years under a mile of glacial
ice before spending
4,000 years submerged
under glacial meltwater.
The land became peopled
as the glacier receded
about 9,000 years ago.

. Main Streets
animated vintage postcards

The main streets of
yesterday reveal the roots
of a community. Its needs and
desires are reflected in
the signage and in the retail
stores. Old shop windows,
like museum showcases, display
artifacts and aspirations of
another time. By panning and
zooming into restored vintage
postcards and photos, we can
wander down yesterday’s streets
and immerse ourselves in
the street world of generations
past. It’s fascinating to
realize how far we’ve come.
It's even more fascinating to
see where we’ve been.

Early 1900s Stanley Park
. Stanley Park .
a nostalgic tour with
animated vintage postcards

"Carved out of a
primeval rain-forest,
Vancouver’s one-thousand-
acre Stanley Park was
officially opened in 1888
and declared “The most
beautiful park in the world.”
Gone now are the virgin
timber stands and quaint
lifestyles of yesteryear.
Gone, but not forgotten.
This remarkable dvd
presentation breathes
new life into vintage
postcards to capture
the original splendour
and wondrous early years
of Stanley Park."
